Lydia's House is a a ministry of the Richland County Ministerial Association to provide emergency cold weather shelter for homeless families.

The shelter will be located on a weekly rotating basis among area churches including Grace Community Church, St. Barnabas Episcopal, Peace United Methodist, and possibly two others. The shelter will open January 2nd and run through April 15th, 2012. Shelter will be provided to families Monday through Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.. A dinner meal and breakfast will be included. Volunteers are needed to stay overnight, provide food, and manage intake procedures. Pastors of the RCMA will each stay overnight one night per month as volunteers. The emergency shelter will have a limit of 15 nights.

The shelter is necessary due to the fact that A Child’s Place has been continuously full for over a year with a waiting list. A Family’s Place is currently full. Also, a tightening economy is creating a greater need among the widows and the orphans.

The Shelter will be called Lydia’s House. The name is taken from Acts 16 where Lydia is converted and her first act as a Christian is to open her house for hospitality “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at my home (Acts 16:15.)

Lydia’s House is in need of volunteers and funds. Checks may be written to the Richland County Ministerial Association and mailed to:
